life doesn't get easierDo you ever have days where the world seems to be fighting against you and the easiest thing to do is give in and just go and hide somewhere and lick your wounds?

I know I have days just like that, or should I say I did have.

The sort of days I’m talking about can leap right out of nowhere. Everything in your world can be moving along just great. You have total belief in what you’re doing.

Then suddenly a combination of negative events conspire together and you feel that your whole day is sliding into oblivion. If you allow the situation to continue you can start to feel your whole life is sliding into the same black hole.

Once it starts to go in that direction the negative internal dialogue takes over and helps the whole dismal dilemma on its way.

The interesting aspect to all of this, for me, is the fact that once your day has hit rock bottom and their appears to be no answer to your problems something very interesting happens.

It appears you get to a point where there is no further you can slide – rock bottom as I’ve called it – and at that point something within each one of us kicks in and says – there is nowhere else to go but up.

And usually after a good night’s sleep the world becomes a bed of roses again and your belief returns, the ideas and answers come and if you do take a few moments to think back you will probably be wondering what all the fuss was about in the first place.

Does any of this sound familiar?

But I believe there is an answer, well there was for me and hopefully for you as well.

I call it my bounce-back formula.

It’s a little process I make sure I trigger once I feel things moving in the wrong direction in my mind and certainly long before I get anywhere near rock-bottom.

I have a pre-prepared list of five successes – it could be any number – from my past. They can be small successes in the grand scheme of things but they have the effect of immediately reminding me that I have done it once and I can take back control of all these things I am currently telling myself I can’t do.

I know and believe I can get back on track because I have done it in the past which reaffirms I can do it again in the present. The belief returns and I’m on my way once more.

Why not give it a try yourself?

Jot down five past successes in any area of your life – happiness, health and wealth. I aim for at least one in each of these main areas.

Build a mental picture of how you achieved it and most important  how you felt at the time of these successes.

Pull out that piece of paper or a note writing app on your phone, and write them down now.

Read them, think about them, picture them and I believe you will be right back up there punching the air with a stronger level of self-belief than you had when the downward spiral first started.

But more important they will be there to refer to the next time life is challenging you and you will bounce right back up where you belong.
