“Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be”
By Abraham Lincoln

It never ceases to amaze me the number of things in our lives that are in actual fact habits. And at the risk of repeating myself – Habits Control Our Lives but as always the good news is that we control our habits.

So all of that means we always have the opportunity to change negative habits into positive habits.

All of this is certainly true in the case of being happy. I believe the ability to be happy, is a habit and making the effort to develop a strong happiness habit can have a dramatic effect on all our lives.

Too many people put the experience or emotion of being happy at the wrong end of their life’s journey. Too often we hear people say they will be happy when…

Are you one of those people. Will you be happy when?

When you win the lottery. When you feel healthy. When you find you perfect partner. When you build your business. When you find the perfect job. When you retire.

And so the list goes on!

If that is the case then what are you going to be doing in the meantime? Are you going to be sad until that ideal day arrives.

I hope not because that could be a terrible waste of your wonderful life.

Why not be happy now?

Be happy right now while you are on your journey to find your perfect partner or perfect career or perfect business. Because being sad is not going to speed up your journey to your destiny, your goal, any quicker than it would if you were happy.

In fact being sad could even slow down your progress to achieving your goal.

Of course my thinking does apply to all of these statements other than the one that says – I will be happy when I retire – because that is obviously a point you will steadily progress towards irrelevant of your mindset.

But let’s stop for a moment and think about where you are right now. Your current situation in life. Are you feeling happy or sad?

If you are feeling sad what are you gaining from being sad? Is there a benefit from being sad, are good things coming to you because you are sad or feeling miserable with life.

You may think other people will give a helping hand and a lift up in life because they don’t like to see you sad.

But the bad news is it could be the exact opposite that is true. The possibility people actually avoid you because they don’t want to be pulled down by your sad, negative vibrations.

So if being sad has no benefit then why not be happy. Because then there is always the possibility you happy outlook will attract people and situations to you just because you are putting out happy, positive vibrations.

And as you draw those people and situations to you then there is always a possibility they will give you the lift, support or point you in a direction that will help you progress quicker to your goal.

Go on give it a try and see what happens.

To give you help with switching to a happy mindset I will return to the subject at a later time with some ideas and tips on how to get into a happy mood on a daily basis or when you might be feeling a bit low. But for now just try smiling – it’s amazing the inner feeling it will give you.
